Travelling: Travelling with children
Parents should take special care when
travelling with young children
and being prepared in advance is important.
Special seating arrangements in planes can often be arranged and
cots provided for infants if notice is given in advance. Special feeds for babies
may also be arranged.
Prepare for possible travel sickness. And take boiled sweets to
prevent their ears popping.
Take lots of colouring books, pens, comics etc.. To stop them
getting bored.
Children's' skin burns easily in the sun. Take sensible clothing,
high factor sun screens and avoid exposure to 'midday' sun.
Check with the car company (if you are planning on driving) to
find out if they have seat belts and children's seats.
Remember don't let children drink water unless it comes from a
sealed bottle. And don't let them eat raw fruit or vegetables.
If your child has vomiting or diarrhoea lost fluid and salts must
be replaced. It may be helpful to take rehydrating tablets for reconstituting
with boiled water.
Make sure that you and the children are up to date with immunisations.
In some countries you need vaccines so check with your doctor before you travel.
Keep children away from stray or sick animals.
Doses of malaria tablets are usually less than for adults.
If your children come down with any illnesses seek medical advice
straight away. Make sure you are covered for medical insurance.
